Brian Paddick, Monica Whyte and local Liberal Democrats are campaigning to keep a real police presence in Enfield Borough.

In a visit to Southgate police station - one of several stations threatened with closure across the Borough of Enfield - local London Assembly candidate Monica Whyte has welcomed the support of Lib Dem mayoral candidate Brian Paddick in maintaining a real police presence in the Enfield area.

"Liberal Democrats in Enfield have been campaigning to retain real Police presence in the Borough since 2002," said GLA candidate Monica Whyte, "and I am delighted to have Brian Paddick's support in keeping the pressure on."

"While it be well be true that many of Enfield's police stations are too old to be fit for modern policing, there is still a clear need for people to be able to have a face-to-face conversation with an officer that knows the local beat."

"If stations like Southgate are to close, the replacement 'drop-in' centres we are promised must be fully staffed and open first. We must not allow this type of reorganisation to remove the real local policing that the people of Enfield deserve!"
